Alabama Shipyard Bids Farewell to the SS Regulus

The SS Regulus Departs Alabama Shipyard After Repairs

The SS Regulus is heading back to Beaumont, Tx. after maintenance and repair at The Alabama Shipyard.

The SS Regulus was originally the USNS Regulus and became property of the U.S. Navy in 1981. She served as a cargo ship during the Persian Gulf War in 1990.  In 2008 she was transferred from the U.S. Navy to the U.S. Maritime Administration, becoming part of the Ready Reserve Force. Should she be activated, The Regulus will report  to the Military Sealift Command.

Alabama Shipyard is grateful for the opportunity to help keep the Navy's container vessels reliable and ready to leave at a moment's notice. We wish her well on her trip home to Texas!
