Alabama Shipyard Wins Helix Producer I
Aug 09, 2022Alabama Shipyard Wins Helix Producer I

This week, Alabama Shipyard looks forward to the arrival of the Helix Producer I. She is coming in for hull painting, sea valve inspection and other underwater inspections as well as processing equipment piping modifications on deck.
From 2006-2008, Helix was converted from a roll on roll off ferry to a Floating Production vessel. She has a Disconnectable Transfer system with umbilicals that enable her to connect to deep water wells with the ability to disconnect to avoid approaching hurricanes and reconnect after.
In 2010, Helix was diverted from Phoenix Oil Field in the Gulf of Mexico to the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill site, as she can process up to 30,000 barrels of oil a day. For 2 months, she joined vessels Discoverer Enterprise and Toisa Pisces, which could only process about 18,000 barrels a day. She remained until the well was finally sealed.
We are proud to welcome her to the yard!
